MidSummer Muswell 2018

This year our event will be opened by our new ward Councillors Julia Ogiehor and Scott Emery.

We are also pleased to introduce a new MC to MidSummer Muswell 2018.  The brains behind the rather popular Muswell Hill Independent Business Awards, Matt Kendall will be keeping everyone informed on the day. Matt has matt kendalllived in Muswell Hill for 9 years after moving here from Manchester. He runs his own companies including the popular Meetup Group “Interesting Talks London.” He is a champion for local and independent businesses.

The MidSummer Muswell team are now busy with preparations. There will be something for all: Local Gem and Independent Business Awards, live music, brass band, local dance groups and our always well received market.

If you are a local business (or family) with an interest in our lovely and vibrant local community then do consider supporting this event. Friends of St James Square is a not for profit charitable organisation manned by volunteers, which has been set up specifically for the benefit of the local community and therefore also local businesses.

We are looking for offers of sponsorship (small and large) but also have advertising opportunities within our Festival brochure. Every penny really does count so whatever you think you can donate to help put on this fantastic local event will be very gratefully received.

Midsummer Muswell returns for another day of community fun

MidSummer Muswell 2017After a record-breakingly freezing and snowy winter, summer is now on its way, and what better way to celebrate the summer solstice than to get together with your local community and celebrate!  For the fourth year running, on Saturday 23 June, the Friends of St James Square are organising Midsummer Muswell, an annual street festival that celebrates all that is special about our community and showcases our local talent and organisations, all wrapped up in a fun day out.

So for those of you who haven’t joined in before, what can you expect?  At 1.00pm sharp proceedings will be opened by Muswell Hill Brass Band and the outdoor stage will swing into action, hosting local bands, as well as performances by the talented kids from local performing academies. It is also your chance to dance in the street with friends and neighbours and just generally have a good time.

Our market this year has been organised by Vibe Market – a chance to buy unique items, and food and drink to keep your energy levels up throughout the afternoon.  Community groups including Muswell Hill and Fortis Green Association and the Muswell Hill Sustainability Group will be present to introduce you to their work.

New this year is the opportunity to join in with the making of Muswell Hill’s first community mosaic sculpture.  Young or old, we need your help to create this new artwork – pop into St James’ Church on the day to get involved.  Other events in the church to keep you entertained include a bouncy castle, face painting, parachuting teddies.

So let’s all get together and make this year’s Midsummer Muswell bigger and better than ever before.  It’s a brilliant opportunity to get to know your neighbours and to find out more about the array of local businesses and activities available on our doorstep.  All are welcome, whether you live near or far.
